1. I put in a calf!
2. Added some fog like suggested .
I still have not begun detailing the whales, I'm still focusing on anatomy.

Updates! WIP 2
1. I have filled in more detail on the gray whale (so much more to go....)
2. I had a bright idea to change the canvas size of my picture...I kind of thought it looked better wider...I would appreciate feedback on that!
3. I'm debating putting a calf in the empty bottom right space.

Updates! WIP 1
Still not finished, but a fixed a few things...
1. I decided my lighthouse was NOT in proportion to the land, it was way too big, so I fixed that.
2. At the suggestion of awesome friends like, I did feel the original pose of the gray whale was NOT dynamic, but I didn't know how to fix that, but I finally did, I think...you tell me!
You can take a look at the first WIP painting in my scraps here [link]

WORK IN PROGRESS
I started this back in July. This is inspired by the place I'm currently interning at, Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area in Newport, Oregon. I used one of my own photo references for lighthouse and above water scene. I still have a lot of work to do on the gray whale, and I was thinking of adding a calf .
Comments & feedback are appreciated!

Newport is a beautiful place--I'm just about to visit.
This piece has really come together. You ought to be proud. I love the subtle colors, the balanced detail, very lovely.
